Root Canal

Root canal treatment lets us save a tooth that is at risk of being lost due to infection or damage. Modern root canals are no more painful than getting a tooth filled.

Root Canal

Why Do I Need a Root Canal?

Every tooth has a bundle of soft tissue called the pulp at its centre. The pulp is vulnerable to damage and infection, especially if the tooth develops a cavity or a crack. If the infection is undetected it can spread to the tissues surrounding the tooth and form a dangerous abscess. The damage from the abscess will weaken the tooth, which can result in the tooth being lost.
Root canal treatment saves the tooth by removing the infected pulp and disinfecting the inside of the tooth. This prevents the spread of infection.

How Does a Root Canal Work?

The root canal process is simple and is performed using a local anesthetic. We prepare a small hole in your tooth and extract the pulp. After that, we disinfect the inside of the tooth fill the extracted pulp area with dental materials and seal the hole with a filling. We then restore the tooth with a crown, if necessary.
Symptoms of an infected tooth include intense toothache and sensitivity to temperature and pressure, pain that wakes you up at night and an abscess may form.
If you suffer from these symptoms Call our office to book an examination.
